Discounts, promotions and quantity prices

Give a manual discount, let promotions apply by themselves, sell at bulk prices and redeem loyalty points.

Web POS: discounts, promotions and quantity pricing

Bakasir can lower a price in four ways: a discount you type, a promotion that applies automatically, a quantity price, and loyalty points. This tutorial shows each one at the register and takes about 4 minutes. The Owner sets up promotions, quantity prices and loyalty first, see the sections below.

Before you start

  • A register is open and the cart has items. See Open the register and make your first sale.
  • Automatic promotions need the Promotions & Discount plugin. Quantity prices need Quantity Pricing. Points need Loyalty & Membership. See Plugins and Marketplace.
  • If you are Staff, a manual discount or tax change needs the approval PIN of a Manager or Owner.

Steps

Add items and check the automatic prices

Add products to the cart. A line that reached a bulk price shows a Qty Price tag, and a line that matches a promotion shows the promotion name. The totals update by themselves.

See which promotions are live

Click the Promotions button. The list shows the promotions that apply right now. Only one promotion applies to a sale: the one that gives the highest discount.

Type a manual discount

In the General Store style, type an amount in the Discount field of the cart. In the other styles, click Discount, enter the Discount amount and click Apply. This is an amount of money, not a percentage.

Pick the wholesale price for a line

In the General Store style, each cart line has a price selector. Change Retail Price to Wholesale Price for customers who buy at the wholesale rate. The selector only changes the price when the product has a wholesale price.

Change the tax rate if needed

In the General Store style, type a rate in Tax % to replace the standard rate for this sale. Leave it empty to use the rate from Settings → System.

Redeem loyalty points

Select a member as the customer, click Pay Now and use Redeem Points in the payment window. Enter the points to use. Points discount shows how much the sale goes down.

Enter the Manager approval PIN

If you are Staff and used a manual discount or a tax change, the payment window shows Manager approval PIN when you click Complete Payment. A Manager or Owner enters their PIN, then you click Complete Payment again.

How the prices work together

  • A manual discount replaces automatic promotions. As soon as a discount is typed, the promotion is not applied to that sale.
  • A quantity price sets the unit price of a line. When the quantity reaches the Min Qty of a tier, the line uses the tier price automatically. A tier price wins over the wholesale price selector.
  • Promotions are calculated on the price in the cart, so a promotion works on top of a quantity price.
  • A discount cannot exceed the cart. If it does, the window says the discount is larger than the cart and you cannot take payment until you lower it.
  • The server checks the final price when the sale is saved. If the price changed while you were working, the cart is refreshed and you pay the new total.

For the Owner: set it up

Promotions

Open Sales → Promotions and click New Promotion. Choose the type (Percentage, Fixed or Buy X Get Y) and what it covers: the whole order, selected products, categories or brands. You can add a Minimum Purchase, a start and end date, a time of day, the days of the week and a store. Active promotions reach the POS by themselves.

Quantity prices

Open the product in Catalog → Product, find the Quantity Pricing section, turn on Enable Quantity Pricing and use Add Tier to enter a Min Qty and a Price per Unit. A small simulation below the tiers shows the result for a quantity you type.

Loyalty points

Open Sales → Customers and click Loyalty. Turn on the program and set how much spending earns one point (Earn Rate), what one point is worth (Redemption Value), the Minimum Points to Redeem and when points expire. Only customers marked as members earn and redeem points. Points are earned when the sale is completed, and a refund or void takes them back.

Tips

  • Manager PIN. The PIN belongs to a Manager or Owner and is separate from the POS PIN that unlocks the register.
  • Refunded sale, refunded points. Points redeemed on a sale come back when the sale is refunded or voided.
  • Desktop and Android. Both apps use the same promotions, quantity prices and points. See Selling on Desktop and Selling on Android.
