Web POS overview

Sell from your browser with a cashier screen made for your type of business.

The Web POS is the Bakasir cashier that runs in your web browser. You open it from the Business Portal, open a register, ring up sales and close the register at the end of the shift. It works on a laptop, a tablet or a touch screen, and it keeps selling for a while when the internet drops.

Where you can run the cashier

Bakasir has three cashier channels: the Web POS, the Desktop app and the Android app. The Owner chooses which ones the business uses in Settings → POS, under Where will you run the cashier?. This choice decides what the Open POS button does.

  • When Web POS is on, Open POS opens the cashier in your browser.
  • When Web POS is off, Open POS shows a window with your paired Desktop and Android devices and where to download the apps. Someone who opens the Web POS address anyway sees Web POS is disabled.

See Desktop and Android for the other two channels.

POS styles

The Web POS has five screens. Each one is built for a type of business, and your business type decides the one you see first.

StyleMade forWhat is special
General StoreShops of any kindCart on the left, product grid or list, tax, discount and shipping fields in the cart.
Coffee Shop / BarCafes and barsQuick drink grid, current orders list, Hold Order.
SupermarketSupermarkets and wholesalersFast scanning, category picker, Price Check, Park Sale, Recall Sale, Return / Refund.
PharmacyPharmaciesMedicine search, batch and expiry date, dosage rule, Prescription and OTC modes.
RestaurantRestaurants and coffee shopsFloor plan, dine-in, take away and delivery, item notes, Send to Kitchen.

To switch, click the POS Style button at the top of the screen. The Pharmacy style is only open to pharmacy businesses, and the Restaurant style only to restaurants and coffee shops. The Owner can set the style new devices open with in Settings → POS → Default POS Style.

On the Pharmacy screen the keys F2 (search), F4 (switch Prescription and OTC), F8 (hold) and F9 (pay) work as shortcuts.

Tools around the sale

Most screens have these buttons close to the cart:

  • Customer: pick a customer or keep Walk-In. Quick Add Customer creates one without leaving the sale.
  • Today's Sales: a summary of the day, including payments by method and open cashier sessions.
  • Promotions: the promotions that are live right now. See Discounts and promotions.
  • Customer Display: opens a second screen for the customer with the cart and total.
  • POS Settings: the gear button. Only the Owner can change these options.
  • Fullscreen: hides the browser bars.

Good to know

Works offline

If the connection drops while the POS is open, sales are saved on this device with a local receipt number and sent to Bakasir when the connection returns. The top of the screen shows Offline, N sales pending sync or Synced. You still need the internet to open a new register. The Owner can turn this off with Enable offline POS on web in Settings → POS.

  • PIN lock. If the Owner sets a POS PIN in Settings → POS, the POS shows Register locked and asks for the PIN. It asks again after the time chosen in Keep POS unlocked (30 minutes to 8 hours).
  • Barcode scanner. A scanner that types like a keyboard works in the search box. The Owner can also turn on Enable cursor-position scanner so scanning works without clicking the box first.
  • On-screen keyboard. For touch screens without a keyboard, turn on Enable on-screen keyboard in Settings → POS.
  • Cash drawer. A browser cannot open a cash drawer by itself. To open it automatically, the Owner sets a Cash drawer bridge address in Settings → POS, which points to a small program on the cashier computer. Without it, the drawer will not open from the Web POS. The Desktop app talks to the printer and drawer directly, see Hardware.
  • Who can do what. Owners and Managers can do everything. Staff can sell, but a manual discount, a tax change, a refund or a void needs the approval PIN of a Manager or Owner.
