Take payments
Take cash, card, bank transfer, QR, e-wallet or cheque, and split one bill across several payments.
This tutorial shows how to take a payment with any method the Web POS offers, and how to split one bill into several payments. It takes about 3 minutes.
Before you start
- A register is open and the cart has at least one item. See Open the register and make your first sale.
- For Split Pay, the Owner must turn on Enable split bill in Settings → POS. The toggle does not appear without it.
Steps
Open the payment window
With items in the cart, click Pay Now. In some styles the button reads Pay and shows the total. The window opens with the amount to pay at the top.
Choose a payment method
Under Payment Methods, click one of Cash, Card, Bank Transfer, QR, E-Wallet or Cheque. The method chosen in Settings → POS → Default Payment is selected for you.
Enter the amount received
The Cash Given field starts with the exact total. For cash, type the amount the customer hands over or press a Quick Cash button. Change is calculated at once. For the other methods, leave the amount as it is.
Add proof of a bank transfer
For Bank Transfer, you can attach a photo, screenshot or PDF of the transfer slip in Upload payment proof. It is saved with the sale and you can open it later from Sales → Transactions.
Split the payment if needed
Turn on Split Pay. Pick a method, type the Tender amount, then click the Add ... tender button, which names the method you picked. Repeat until Still due reaches zero. The remove icon next to a line deletes it.
Complete the payment
Click Complete Payment. The button stays disabled until the payment covers the total. The sale is saved and the receipt screen appears.
What each method does
| Method | What happens |
|---|---|
| Cash | Shows Quick Cash buttons and Change. If the Owner set a cash drawer bridge, the drawer opens after the sale. |
| Card | Records the sale as paid by card. The window shows EDC Status: Disconnected because the Web POS is not connected to a card machine. Take the card payment on your own machine first. |
| Bank Transfer | Records a transfer and lets you attach the proof. |
| QR and E-Wallet | Records the method on the sale. Check on your QR or wallet screen that the money arrived before you click Complete Payment. |
| Cheque | Records a cheque payment. |
Bakasir records the method, it does not charge it
The Web POS saves which method the customer used. It does not send a charge to a card machine or e-wallet. Always confirm the payment on your own device before you complete it.
Good to know
- Change in a split payment. If the tenders add up to more than the total, the extra comes back as change from the cash drawer, even when one of the tenders is not cash.
- A payment cannot be less than the total. Complete Payment stays disabled until it is covered.
- A manual discount or tax change by Staff makes the window ask for a Manager approval PIN when you click Complete Payment. See Discounts and promotions.
- Points. If the customer is a member and Loyalty is on, a Redeem Points box appears in this window.
- If the payment fails, the cart is kept. Check the connection and try again. If the sale was saved but the receipt print or table status failed, do not charge again: reprint the receipt from the receipt screen.
- Offline. A sale paid while offline is saved on the device and uploaded later. It gets a local receipt number first.
