Hold an order and come back to it

Park the current sale while you serve someone else, then resume it from the drafts list.

Web POS: hold an order and resume it later

Use Hold when a customer steps away to fetch something, or when another customer is waiting. The cart is parked and you can serve the next person. This tutorial takes about 2 minutes.

Before you start

Steps

Add the items to the cart

Search or scan the products as usual. If you know the customer, pick them with the Customer button so the order is saved with them.

Click Hold

Click Hold below the cart. The button has a different name in some styles: Hold Order in Coffee Shop and Restaurant, and Park Sale in Supermarket. The cart is cleared and the order is saved as a draft.

Serve the next customer

The screen is ready for a new sale. Take payment for the next customer as normal.

Open Recent Drafts

When the first customer returns, click Recent Drafts. Its number shows how many orders are on hold. In Supermarket the button is called Recall Sale.

Resume the order

Find the order in the list. Each one shows the number of items, the time it was held and the product names. Click Resume. The items return to the cart and the order leaves the list.

Pay or remove the order

Continue with Pay Now. If the customer left, open Recent Drafts again and click Remove next to the order to delete it.

What a draft keeps

  • The products, quantities, selected variants and the price tier (retail or wholesale) of each line.
  • The customer and the note.
  • The table, in the Restaurant style. Opening that table on the floor plan resumes its held order.

A draft does not keep the discount, tax % or shipping you typed. Enter them again after you resume. Prices come from the current catalog, so a price you changed in the meantime is used. A product that was deleted since is left out.

Tips

  • Drafts stay on this device. They are saved in the browser, so a draft made on one computer does not appear on another. Anyone who uses this browser for the same business sees the same drafts.
  • Up to 30 drafts are kept. When the list is full, the oldest one is dropped.
  • A refresh does not lose the current cart. The sale in progress is kept by the browser even if you reload the page.
  • Holding does not reserve stock. Stock only drops when the sale is paid.
  • Pharmacy shortcut. On the Pharmacy screen, F8 holds the order.
