Tables and kitchen orders

Run dine-in service in the Restaurant style, with a floor plan, item notes and tickets sent to the kitchen.

Web POS: tables and kitchen orders

The Restaurant style adds a floor plan, dine-in, take away and delivery orders, and a Send to Kitchen button. This tutorial sets it up once and then follows one table from seating to payment. It takes about 5 minutes.

Before you start

  • Your business type is restaurant or coffee shop, or you chose the Restaurant style with the POS Style button. See Web POS overview.
  • The Owner turns on Enable dine-in / take away and Enable table management in Settings → POS. They save by themselves. Without the first one, the order type buttons and Send to Kitchen do not appear. Without the second one, there is no floor plan.
  • A register is open. See Open, close and review the register.

Steps

Turn on dine-in and tables

As the Owner, open Settings → POS and switch on Enable dine-in / take away and Enable table management. Then open the POS. The Restaurant screen opens on the Floor plan.

Add your tables

On the floor plan, click Add table. Enter the Table name, the Floor and the number of Seats, then click Add. Repeat for every table. Use the All floors filter to look at one floor at a time.

Open a table

Click a free table. It becomes Occupied and the menu opens. The table name, floor and seats show at the top. If dine-in is on, choose Dine-In, Take Away or Delivery next to it.

Add items and kitchen notes

Click a menu item. In Item Modifiers, type any Sizes, Flavors or Add-ons and add them with the plus button, then write a note in Notes to Kitchen. Click Add to Cart. Items with variants ask you to pick a variant first.

Send to Kitchen

Click Send to Kitchen. The ticket lists the items under Sent to kitchen, and each line is marked Sent. The message Sent to the kitchen confirms it.

Add more and send again

When the guests order more, add the items and click Send to Kitchen again. Items still waiting are grouped under Not sent yet and marked New. A line whose quantity changed is marked Changed.

Take payment

Click Pay. To split the bill between guests, click Split Bill first (it appears when Enable split bill is on). After the payment is completed, the table goes back to Available.

Moving around the floor plan

  • Table colors and status. Each table is Available, Occupied, Reserved or Billed. The top of the plan shows how many tables are in use.
  • Table options. The menu on a table has Move, which edits its name, floor, seats or status, and Merge, which puts the guests of one table onto another table and adds up the seats.
  • Active orders. The list beside the plan shows orders that were held. Click one to continue it. The buttons under New order start a Take Away or Delivery order, or an order with No table.
  • Hold Order parks the order on this device and returns you to the floor plan. See Hold an order and come back to it.
  • Void clears the order and frees the table. Nothing is sold and no stock is used.

Where the kitchen sees the order

The Web POS creates a kitchen ticket when you click Send to Kitchen. It does not have a kitchen screen of its own. Today only the Desktop app shows the tickets, on its Kitchen display, and prints them on a kitchen printer. The kitchen therefore needs a Desktop terminal. See Selling on Desktop and Hardware.

Tips

  • Bottom bar. The row of buttons under the screen holds Orders, Customers, Today's Sales, Promotions, Discount, Refund and Print Last. Refund opens Sales → Transactions.
  • More menu. On the ticket, the three dots offer Print Quote, Open New Order and Recent Drafts.
  • The order stays on this device. The table status is shared, but the items of a held table order are saved in this browser. Finish a table on the same computer where you opened it.
