Printer, drawer and devices
Connect a receipt printer, cash drawer, barcode scanner, scale, customer display, kitchen printer and label printer to the Desktop app.
Open Devices to connect the equipment at your counter. This tutorial sets up a receipt printer and the cash drawer plugged into it, and then lists how to add the other devices. It takes about 5 minutes.
Before you start
- The printer is switched on, has paper and is connected to the computer (USB, serial cable or network).
- For a USB printer, its driver is installed in Windows, so it appears in the Windows printer list.
- You are signed in on the Desktop app. Any signed in cashier can open Devices.
Steps
Open Devices
On the Home screen, click the Devices tile (Printer, drawer, scanner).
Choose how the printer connects
Under Receipt printer, choose USB / Windows for a printer installed in Windows, Serial COM for a serial or USB-serial cable, Network LAN for a printer with an IP address, or No printer to turn printing off.
Pick the printer
For USB / Windows, choose the printer in Windows printer. If the list is empty, install the printer driver in Windows and reload the page. For Serial COM, choose the COM port and Port speed (baud). For Network LAN, type the Printer IP address (port 9100).
Set paper and printing options
Choose the Paper width: 58 mm or 80 mm. Turn on Print automatically to print after every payment, Cut paper if your printer has an auto cutter, and Open cash drawer to open the drawer when a payment includes cash.
Print a test page
Click Test print. The printer prints a page titled BAKASIR TEST PRINT and Bakasir confirms Test page sent to the printer.
Test the cash drawer
Click Open drawer. The drawer connected to the printer opens and Bakasir shows Open drawer command sent.
Save the settings
Click Save. Bakasir shows Device settings saved. Test print and Open drawer also save what you entered.
Receipts follow the layout set in the Portal under Settings → Receipt, including logo, header, footer and online receipt QR code.
Cash drawer
The drawer is connected to the receipt printer and opens through it. It opens after a cash payment when Open cash drawer is on, and after cash out and petty cash entries. With Print automatically off, the drawer still opens on cash sales if Open cash drawer is on.
Barcode scanner
A USB scanner that works like a keyboard needs no setup. Scan on the POS screen, on Price check, or in label search. For a serial scanner, choose its port under Barcode scanner in Serial scanner port. Last scan in Diagnostics shows the last code Bakasir received.
Scale
For products sold by weight, choose the scale's COM port under Scale and set the Port speed (baud). The page shows the weight, for example Reading 1.250 kg, or No reading yet. At the POS, open a line and press Read from scale. If no weight has arrived, Bakasir says No scale reading yet.
Customer display
Turn on Customer display and choose the Monitor to show the cart and total to the customer on a second screen. It also shows the QRIS code during QRIS payment, Thank you with the change after payment, and a slideshow with your message when the cart is empty. With only one monitor, the display opens in a normal window.
Set the slideshow images, seconds per image and the thank-you message in the Portal under Settings → POS → Customer display.
A VFD pole display (a small two line display) can be connected on a COM port. It shows the last item and the total.
Kitchen printer
Under Kitchen printer, choose the printer for kitchen tickets, or Same as receipt printer when you have only one. Tickets print when you send an order with To kitchen.
Label printer
Under Label printer, choose the printer, the language (ZPL, TSPL or ESC/POS) and the label Width (mm) and Height (mm). ZPL and TSPL suit Zebra, TSC and Xprinter label printers. With ESC/POS, labels print on the receipt printer. Labels are printed from the Print labels tile, see Sales history, orders and tools.
Diagnostics
At the bottom of Devices, click Run tests to check the Server connection (shown in milliseconds) and the Offline queue (sales waiting and failed). Open log folder opens the folder with the log files, which support may ask for.
Tips
- Printer says it did not respond? Check power, paper and the cable, then try Test print again. The message is The device did not respond.
- Port could not be opened. Close any other program that uses the same COM port.
- Switch printers? Change the settings and press Test print again. No sales are lost.
