Install and activate the Desktop app
Install Bakasir on a Windows computer and pair it to a terminal with a one time code.
This tutorial installs Bakasir on a Windows computer and connects it to one of your terminals. It takes about 5 minutes. You only do it once per computer.
Before you start
- You are an Owner or Manager. Only they can create a pairing code.
- Your business already has a terminal in Settings → Business. See Set up your business.
- The computer runs Windows 10 (version 1809 or newer) or Windows 11 and is online.
Steps
Download the installer
In the Business Portal, click Open POS. In the Open your cashier window, click Download for Windows.
Run the installer
Open the downloaded Setup file. Bakasir installs for your Windows account, adds a shortcut and opens by itself.
Go through the introduction
Read the three introduction slides with Next, or press Skip. On the last screen, choose the Theme, Display size, Touch mode and Animations you like, then click Start using Bakasir. You can change all of this later in Settings.
Create a pairing code in the Portal
In the Portal open Settings → Business. On the terminal you want, click Pair device. The Pair a device window shows an 8 character code and a QR code.
The code works once and expires after 10 minutes. Click New code if it runs out.
Choose the computer's role
On the Activate device screen, choose Checkout terminal for the counter, or Kitchen display for a screen in the kitchen.
Enter the pairing code
Stay on the Pairing code tab, type the 8 characters and click Activate.
Check that it is connected
The Cashier sign in screen appears with your business, outlet and terminal code. In the Portal, the terminal now lists this computer under Paired devices.
Pair with an Owner or Manager login instead
If you cannot get a code, use the Owner or Manager sign in tab. Enter your email or phone and password (or use Sign in with Google), add the authenticator code if asked, choose the terminal and click Connect to this terminal. You are signed out of the account right after pairing.
If the account must still change its password or turn on two step verification, finish that in the Portal first and try again.
If the computer is removed
When an Owner or Manager unpairs the computer or disables the terminal, the app shows This device was removed. Ask for a new code and click Activate this device again. Sales that were already sent stay safe on the server.
If you see Device data cannot be read, the activation data on the computer is damaged or belongs to another Windows account. Activate again with a new code.
Tips
- Install Bakasir under the Windows account the cashiers use. Activation data is tied to that account.
- Give the computer a stable internet connection while pairing. Selling can continue offline afterwards.
- Set up the printer right after pairing. See Printer, drawer and devices.
