Sign in and lock the screen
Sign in as a cashier with a PIN or staff card, lock the screen when you step away and unlock it again.
Every cashier signs in with a personal PIN, so each sale and each cash session is recorded under the right name. This tutorial shows the daily sign in and how to lock the screen. It takes about 2 minutes.
Before you start
- The computer is paired to a terminal. See Install and activate.
- Your Owner or Manager has set your operator PIN (6 to 12 digits) in the Portal under Staff → Staff List. It is different from the approval PIN used for discounts.
- The computer is online. Signing in needs a connection to Bakasir.
Steps
Find your name
On the Cashier sign in screen, look for your name among the team avatars. Up to 8 team members are shown.
Select your name
Click your avatar. The title changes to Hi and your first name. This step is optional because every PIN is unique in your business.
Type your PIN
Type your PIN on the keyboard or tap the on screen number pad. A PIN has 6 to 12 digits.
Wait for the PIN to be checked
You do not need to press anything. Bakasir checks the PIN by itself, as soon as it has the length of your last successful PIN, or after a short pause once 6 digits are typed. Your PIN is checked automatically is shown under the pad. Press Enter to check at once, Backspace to delete a digit and Esc to clear.
Start your shift
The Home screen opens with a greeting. From here you can clock in, open the register and click the big Open POS button.
Sign in with a staff card
If your Owner registered a card or badge for you (Portal Staff → Staff List, field Badge card (RFID/NFC)), tap it on the USB reader instead of typing a PIN. The screen shows Reading card... for a moment. The reader types the card number like a keyboard, so the card works anywhere on the sign in or lock screen.
Lock the screen when you step away
Press Ctrl+L, or open your name at the top right of the Home screen and choose Lock screen (Ctrl+L). Your cart and register stay as they are.
To unlock:
- Type your PIN or tap your card. Another cashier can also type their own PIN here to take over the screen.
- Or click Unlock with Windows Hello and use your fingerprint, face or Windows PIN. This button only appears when Unlock with Windows Hello is on in Settings and Windows Hello is set up on the computer. It unlocks the same cashier in the same shift.
- Or click Switch cashier to sign out and return to the sign in screen.
Sign out at the end of your shift
Open your name at the top right and choose Sign out of checkout. Close the register first if your shift is over, see Cash, X and Z reports.
If the session ends by itself, for example because the connection to the server was lost for a long time, the app returns to the sign in screen. Your unsent sales stay on the computer.
Tips
- Too many wrong PINs lock sign in for a few minutes. Wait, then try again, or ask your Manager to reset your PIN in the Portal.
- Connection status. The sign in screen shows Online or Offline at the bottom. If it says Offline, check the internet connection.
- Shared computers. Always lock the screen or sign out when you leave. Every sale is recorded under whoever is signed in.
