Shift, register and sales

Clock in, open the register, review sales and close the shift by counting the drawer.

Android: shift, register and sales

Every shift on the Android terminal follows the same loop: clock in, open the register with your starting cash, sell, then count the drawer and close. This tutorial walks through it and shows how to review sales and refund or void one. It takes about 5 minutes.

Before you start

  • You are signed in. See Sign in as a cashier.
  • You counted the cash in the drawer.
  • Only one cashier can have the register of a terminal open at a time. If another cashier still has it open, the Home screen says Register in use. Ask them to close it first.

Steps

Clock in

On the Home screen, find Attendance and tap Clock in if your business uses attendance. It then shows Working since and the time. If you are not allowed to clock in on this device, the panel is not shown.

Open the register

Tap the big blue card, which says Open the register. In the Open register window, type the cash you counted in Opening cash and tap Confirm and open. This amount is where Expected cash starts.

Sell

The same card now says Continue selling. Tap it to open the POS. See Sell with the Android POS.

Review your sales

Open the Sales tile (History and receipts). Switch between Today, 7 days and All, or type in Search receipt number. Tap a sale to see its items, discount, tax, total, paid amount, change and Payments.

On the sale, tap Print to send it to the receipt printer, or Share to send a text receipt through any app on the phone, for example WhatsApp.

Refund or void a sale

Tap Refund or Void, type the required Reason, and press and hold Hold to refund or Hold to void. The whole sale is cancelled and its stock goes back to the outlet. A Staff cashier also types a Manager or Owner PIN in Manager approval PIN.

Count the drawer and close

Open the Cash tile and tap Count cash and close. Type what is in the drawer in Cash in the drawer. The sheet shows Expected cash and the Difference. Add a Note, which is required when the count differs, then tap Confirm and close.

Clock out

Back on Home or in Cash, tap Clock out under Attendance. You can open Show my attendance to see your past shifts.

When the register cannot be closed yet

The Cash tile lists what is still open, under The register cannot be closed yet:

  • A cart is still open. Finish or clear it.
  • Held orders are waiting. Finish or delete them.
  • A payment is still being confirmed.
  • Offline sales are still waiting to upload. Wait until they are sent.
  • Some offline sales failed to upload. Retry or discard them in Sales.

Offline sales

When the connection drops, the POS shows Offline and keeps selling. Sales are saved on the device. Home shows chips such as 2 waiting to sync and 1 failed. Sales the server refuses appear in Sales under Waiting to upload, with the server's answer. Tap Retry, or press and hold Hold to discard to drop one.

If the register closed by itself

If the business closing time passed, Home says Count the drawer to finish the last shift. Tap Count cash, enter the drawer total and tap Confirm count. After closing time, a new shift needs an Owner or Manager to approve overtime in the Portal, and Home says Business hours are over.

Updates and approvals

The bell, or the Updates tile, opens a list with the tabs All, Business and System. It holds low stock alerts, plugin and subscription notices, and approval requests. A Manager or Owner can tap Approve or Decline on a request, for example a discount that a Desktop cashier asked for remotely. Mark all read clears the unread count.

Tips

  • Cash in and cash out. The Android app shows cash taken in your shift. Recording cash in, cash out and petty cash, and printing X and Z reports, are available in the Desktop app.
  • Reports. The Z-report for any day is in Reports for Owners and Managers, see Owner app.
  • Web registers. The same sessions appear in the Portal, see Register.
