Install and pair the Android app

Install Bakasir on an Android phone or tablet and pair it to a terminal with a QR code.

Android: install and pair the app

This tutorial installs Bakasir on an Android device and connects it to one of your terminals. It takes about 5 minutes and you only do it once per device.

Before you start

  • You are an Owner or Manager. Only they can create a pairing code.
  • Your business already has a terminal in Settings → Business. See Set up your business.
  • The device runs Android 10 or newer and is online.

Steps

Install the app

In the Business Portal, click Open POS. In the Open your cashier window, scan the QR code with the phone, or tap Open Google Play or Download APK on the device. If you install the APK, Android asks you to allow installs from that source.

Open the app

Open Bakasir. A short animation plays, then the welcome slides begin.

Go through the welcome slides

Read the four slides with Next, or tap Skip. On the last one, tap Get started.

Personalize the device

On Make it yours, choose the Appearance (Auto, Light or Dark), the Text size, and switch Scan sound, Haptic feedback and Reduce motion on or off. Tap Connect a receipt printer if you want to do that now, then tap Continue. You can change all of it later in Settings.

Choose Cashier terminal

On How will this device be used?, tap Cashier terminal. A progress bar at the top shows the steps: Device type, Pairing, Cashier and Open register.

Create a pairing code in the Portal

In the Portal open Settings → Business, find Basic outlet terminals (or Sales → Terminals), and click Pair device on the terminal. The window shows a QR code and an 8 character code. The code works once and lasts 10 minutes. Click New code if it runs out.

Scan the QR code

On the Pair this terminal screen, tap Scan QR code and point the camera at the code on the computer screen. The device pairs at once.

Or type the code

If you cannot scan, type the 8 characters into Pairing code, then tap Pair with code. The button turns on when all 8 characters are there.

When pairing works, the screen says the terminal is paired and ready and the cashier sign in screen opens. In the Portal, the terminal now lists this device under Paired devices.

Pair with an Owner or Manager login instead

If you have no code, tap Sign in as Owner or Manager instead. Use Continue with Google, or your email or ID and password, and the authenticator code if asked. Then choose the terminal. You are signed out of the account right after pairing. Disabled terminals show Disabled and cannot be chosen.

If the account still has to finish its security setup, the app asks you to do that in the Portal first.

If the device is removed

If an Owner or Manager unpairs the device, the app shows This device was unpaired. Tap Pair again and repeat the pairing. If it shows Device data cannot be read, the secure storage on the device was reset. Tap Set up again and pair once more. Sales that were already sent stay safe on the server.

Tips

  • Camera or code. The QR code is the fastest way. If the app says This QR code is not a Bakasir pairing code, you scanned something else.
  • Code expired? The message is This code is invalid or has expired. Create a new one in the Portal.
  • Receipt printer. You can connect it right away, see Printer and devices.
