Printer and devices
Connect a Bluetooth or USB receipt printer, open the cash drawer, scan barcodes and show the cart on a customer display.
Open Devices to connect the equipment at your counter. This tutorial sets up a receipt printer and tests the cash drawer connected to it. It takes about 4 minutes.
Before you start
- A thermal receipt printer (ESC/POS type), switched on and with paper.
- For Bluetooth, the printer is already paired in the Android Bluetooth settings.
- For USB, the printer is connected to the device with a USB cable (OTG adapter if needed).
- You are signed in on the terminal. Any signed in cashier can open Devices.
Steps
Open Devices
On the Home screen, tap the Devices tile (Printer, scanner, drawer).
Choose how the printer connects
Under Receipt printer and Connection, choose USB or Bluetooth. None turns printing off.
Allow access
For Bluetooth, tap Allow Bluetooth when Android asks, and turn Bluetooth on if it is off. For USB, accept the access request that Android shows when you pick the printer.
Find and pick the printer
Tap Find printers. The list Available printers appears. Tap your printer. The screen then says Selected and its name. If it says No printers found, check the cable or pair the printer in Android settings first.
Set paper and copies
Under Paper width, choose 58 mm or 80 mm, or Store setting to use the width set in the Portal. Set Copies with the plus and minus buttons.
Choose printing options
Switch on Print automatically after payment to print every receipt without tapping Print. Switch on Open cash drawer on cash payment if a drawer is connected to the printer.
Print a test page
Tap Print test page. The printer prints a page titled Test page and the app says Printer works.
Test the cash drawer
Tap Open drawer. The drawer opens and the app says Drawer command sent.
Every change is saved as soon as you make it and the app shows Saved. Receipts follow the layout set in the Portal under Settings → Receipt, including the logo, header and footer.
If printing fails
- Could not reach the printer. Check power, paper and connection. Switch the printer off and on, check the paper and cable, then print the test page again.
- Bluetooth permission is needed to use this printer. Tap Allow Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on to use this printer. Switch on Bluetooth in Android.
- USB access was not granted. Unplug the cable, plug it in again and accept the request.
- Choose a printer first. No printer is selected yet.
Barcode scanner
You can scan with the camera or with a USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner. In the POS, tap Scan to use the camera. A keyboard type scanner types the code into the search box, and its Enter key adds the product when Scanner Enter key adds the product is on in Settings. Last scan in Devices shows the last code received, and Scan with camera lets you test the camera.
Turn the camera button on or off in Settings under Camera scanner.
Customer display
If a second screen is connected, switch on Show cart on second screen under Customer display. The app tells you Second screen connected or No second screen detected. The second screen shows Welcome, then the cart and total while you sell, and Thank you after payment.
Tips
- Paper width. If receipts print with cut off text, choose the width that matches the paper roll.
- Several copies. Increase Copies when you need a customer and a store copy.
- Other receipts. You can reprint any receipt from Sales, see Shift, register and sales.
