E-Commerce: set up your online store

This tutorial takes you from nothing to a working online store that customers can order from. It takes about 15 minutes, plus the time for products and photos.

Before you start

  • You are the Owner. Installing plugins and saving the store settings are Owner actions.
  • Your products have a name, a price, a photo and stock. See Products.
  • To accept online card or wallet payments, you also need a Midtrans account. Bank transfer and cash on delivery work without one.

Steps

Install E-Commerce Suite

Go to Plugins → Marketplace, open the Plugin tab and click Install on E-Commerce Suite. If it is paid, choose a billing cycle and complete the payment. The E-Commerce menu appears in the sidebar by itself. See Plugins and Marketplace.

Choose your Store URL

Go to Settings → Business and fill in Store URL, for example my-store. The address is checked while you type. Changing it later breaks any link you already shared.

Fill in the store settings

Go to E-Commerce → Settings, tab Settings. Set the Store Name and the Default Store (the outlet whose stock the shop sells). Under Customers, choose Enable Registration, Enable Member Portal and Enable Guest Checkout. Under Stock and orders, choose how to treat stock. Add your social links and your Bank Transfer Details, then click Save.

Pick a template

Open Plugins → Marketplace, switch to the Template tab, install one and click Activate. Only one template is active at a time. The Templates tab in E-Commerce → Settings also has a shortcut to the Marketplace.

Choose the products to show

Every active product shows in the store. To keep one out, open it in Catalog → Product and switch on Hide from online store. Check that shown products have a clear photo, description, category and price.

Add collections and banners

In E-Commerce → Collection, click New Collection. Enter a Title, a Description, the Display Limit (0 shows all) and pick the Products. In E-Commerce → Banners, click New Banner, add an Image, a Link, a Position and a Sort Order.

Add search details

In E-Commerce → Settings, open SEO Tools. Fill in Meta Title, Meta Description and Meta Keywords, and upload an OG Image for link previews. Click Save.

Visit your store and place a test order

Click E-Commerce → Visit Store. Add a product to the cart and check out. Then open E-Commerce → Online Orders and confirm the order is there. See Online orders.

Payment options

Customers see these options at checkout:

  • Bank Transfer: they see your Bank Transfer Details after they order. You mark the order paid when the money arrives.
  • Cash on Delivery: you collect the money at delivery.
  • Online Payment: shown only when you have entered the Midtrans Client Key and Server Key in Settings → Integrations, your currency is IDR, and your plan includes digital payments. Paid orders are marked paid by themselves.

Test before you announce the store

Place a test order with each payment method you offer. For Online Payment, check that the order turns to Paid and that stock and reports match.

Use your own domain

With the Domain Connect plugin (it needs E-Commerce), open E-Commerce → Settings, tab Connect a Domain.

  1. Type your domain in Custom Domain and click Save.
  2. At your DNS provider, add the TXT ownership record and the CNAME shown on the screen. For a root domain, use CNAME flattening or ALIAS if your provider supports it.
  3. Click Verify DNS & HTTPS. The domain turns Active once ownership and HTTPS are both ready.

While it is active, Settings → Business shows Domain Connected and locks the Store URL. Disconnect domain returns customers to your Bakasir address and does not delete your DNS records. Automatic Cloudflare setup is not available yet, so use the manual records.

Tips

  • Photos. Banner images look best at 1600 by 600 pixels. Images must be PNG, JPG or WebP and under 5 MB.
  • Search engines. The sitemap and structured data are made automatically from your catalog.
  • Notifications. A new order sends a New online order notification to the Portal.
  • Analytics. The Web Analytics plugin adds E-Commerce → Analytics and a cookie consent banner for shoppers.
