# Updates

> Check for a new version of the Desktop app, let it download, and install it with one restart.

Bakasir checks for new versions by itself. This tutorial shows how to check by hand and how to install an update at a quiet moment. It takes about 2 minutes.

## Before you start

- The app was installed with the Bakasir installer. See [Install and activate](https://docs.bakasir.com/en/docs/desktop/install-and-activate.md).
- The computer is online.
- No customer is waiting. The app restarts to finish the update.

## Steps




### Open Settings

On the Home screen, click the **Settings** tile.




### Find App updates

Scroll to **App updates**. It shows the update channel, for example **Channel stable**, and the latest status. Your current version is under **This device**.




### Check for updates

Click **Check for updates**. If you are current, Bakasir says your version is up to date.




### Let the update download

When a new version exists, the status reads **Downloading version** and the new number. Keep working while it downloads.




### Install and restart

When the status says **Version is ready to install**, click **Install and restart** at a quiet moment. Bakasir closes, installs the update and opens again.




### Sign in again

Sign in with your PIN. Your pairing, your settings and any sales waiting to sync are kept.




## Automatic checks

The app looks for an update shortly after it starts and then every 30 minutes. A new version downloads in the background and a message titled **Bakasir update** tells you when it is ready. The update is never installed in the middle of a sale. It waits until you click **Install and restart**.

## If it does not work

- **Auto update works once the app is installed with the installer.** You see this when the app was started from a development build. Install it with the installer.
- **Update check failed.** Check the internet connection and try again.
- Updates only change the app. Your pairing, settings and sales data are not removed.
